I had this problem after upgrading from NB3.4 to NB4.5 and found that
it was because of a .xbpmonrc file located in my home directory
which indicated the master server as my test server name instead
of my production master server name (and why a java gui was using
a motif control file is beyond me). I still have the file in my home
directory but I can't remember if I had removed it and it got recreated
after I set up activity monitor filters or what (I did the upgrade
in Oct. 2002, and my memory is inconveniently selective).

Try looking for it and see if it's set to show you information about
a non-existent or an idle master server.
