Same here at USFreightways. Currently I do not have a test environment so
any information that is discovered please pass along.

This VMWare thing is rearing its head here too. What is the general
consensus of backing it up.

We have a few W2K Servers running VMWare so we can consolidate hardware
for QA/Testing environment.

What I was thinking of doing was backing up each Guest OS seperately and
the main VMWare server as well; however how useful are the backup of the
large Guest OS files? I was thinking of adding them to an exclude list.

More importantly how do we recover in the event that the entire server
fails? Backups are great...but recovery is what we really need.

Any comments?

I've been backing up the guest OS's successfully with NBU 4.5 MP2.
However, trying to backup the physical server, I fail on Linux files
greater than 2 GB. The 2 GB limit has been overcome for the ext2/ext3
file systems with FP4, but there is no mention of support for VMWares
VMFS file system. I've been told this should work and I plan on testing
it in late June.

Great question...I'm actually having one of my clients test this out as
we speak. The installer seemed to crash the first guest OS (W2K) they
attempted...but next week more tests will be done.

Have you tried it yet?
