I have had problems, mostly due to one server or another re-ordering its
drives. The process of cementing down the setup so that all the drives come
up in the right order on all the servers was kind of painful. Think kidney
stones, only not over as quickly.

However, once that process was complete, we had no trouble until we added
more drives. Then we had to go through the pain again.

Since then, no problems.

Solaris 8
V880
JNI cards
IBM Ultrium (SCSI) drives
Bridge modular data routers
8 NT SAN media servers
~50 network backup clients

I hate to say this

But in my experience, every time I try to share the same drive or set of
drives between Windows and Unix Servers on a SAN I run into the same
problems. I have a friend who works with Brocade and he sees the same
Issue a lot. He suspects there are some driver compatibility problems
between Sun and Windows talking to the same drive(s) on a SAN. I as a
rule try to zone these drives between the Unix and Windows environments
when possible in SSO environments .

I am curious to know if any else has seen this type of issue and has
found a workaround other than zoning your library into there respective
UNIX and windows environments.

Good Luck

Subject: [Veritas-bu] NT Media Server - Drive Problem

Hi,
I am facing a problem with my NT Media server.
Here is my setup.

Veritas NB 4.5 with MP3 Master on Solaris 7.
STK L180 with 4 drives controlled by this master. This
4 drives are shared by one Unix Media Server and a NT
Media Server.
The drive status on the NT Media Server of all the
drives shows DOWN.but on both the Unix Master& Media
server , the drive status is fine.
I am able to take the backup.
But NT Media server, back up is not going thro.
When i am trying to make the drive to UP status, it
giving me the message (MM Status 21, the drive is not
operatable)
the service on NT Media server is running fine. I
tried even restarting the service on NT Media server
too. but still same problem exists.
Can anyone give me any clue abt this problem!!

Thanks in Advance
