Yeah, I am curious too, as I talked over some options with a couple of
engineers from Veritas, and we tossed around a few ideas. However, since we
are W2K, writing to a disk pool first is a challenge due to W2K desiring a
signature on the disk. Therefore, using a rotating disk pool for a storage
device is pretty much out of the question in the M$ world. however, I
believe with *NIX this is far more feasible. Back up to disk storage device
first, then dupe to tape using vaulting...of course work out the semantics
for breaking the disk off of one media server and attaching it to another...
Is this similar to your idea?

Just an FYI on the TSM also, I am pretty sure the database has been ported
to DB/2. There are some things that you can do to ensure the integrity of
the database, but it requires some effort. The concept of one full and
incrementals forever is still the recommended rotation that is used, just
keep in mind that a full system recovery may require a LOT of tapes...

Aw come on David, you can't leave us hanging like that! What's your
idea?
