Here's a paper specifically for tuning buffers on Windows servers:

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/244652.htm

Make sure the buffer sizes are matched between the client & the master/media
server - this made a big difference for me.

Note parts of the paper where it says to look for the the messages in the
bptm logs

"waited for full buffer" & "waited for empty buffer" - these are your keys
to whether buffers sizes & counts are OK.

Mark

I have 3.6 GB RAM on my master/media server on compaq DL580G with
windows2000

My current settings are done by previous Netbackup admin

Number_Data_buffers = 512
Size_Data_buffers = 65536

on 9840 drive max we get 3-4 MB throu put per client

Please advise is it correct?

Your suggestion sounds extreme - you'll need to have large amounts of free
memory available.

Beyond a certain amount, you'll not see any perforance gain - you won't be
able to read clients fast enough to keep near that amount full.

See the buffer tuning performance KB article to calculate memory footprint
for buffer size & buffer count.

Hi

What is max value NUMBER_DATA_BUFFERS can have for performance tunning.

Can I use 512 or 256 in there, the veritas notes just give examples of max
16

any advise please

thanks
