Luis,
   I know nothing about the Sun L280, but here's a thought... The robot
controller may be on the same controller and target, but on a different
LUN. Some small libraries are set up this way. Try modifying the
st.conf, sg.cong, and devlink.tab (via sg_links) to configure target 0
and LUN1, then try sgscan again. You should also check
/var/adm/messages to see if the system seems to be detecting the robot
device on the bus at all.

I get

# sgscan
/dev/sg/c0t0l0: Tape (/dev/rmt/0): "QUANTUM DLT7000"

and QUANTUM DLT7000 is configured in st.conf like this

tape-config-list="QUANTUM DLT7000","Quantum DLT7000", "DLT7KDATA";
DLT7KDATA = 1, 0x38, 0, 0x8639, 4, 0x82, 0x83, 0x84, 0x85, 3;
