Hello,

It happened to me a few times that the drive index was switched to another
for no apparent reason ans it did cause some troubles to us. You can
configure the drive number graphically with the device monitor but here is
the unix command line to change it:

$VOLBIN/tpconfig -update -drive -index 0 -robot 0 -robtype tld -robdrnum 3

Good luck

Jerome.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Veritas drive(s) problem

Please help! I'm a newbie with Veritas software.
Recently I was given the responsibility for a fairly large Veritas backup
environment. Our system consists of 1 master and 2 media servers. We have 2
tapedrives wich are shared between the 2 media servers (Shared Storage
Option). The tape drives are placed in a StorageTek robot (ACS). On all the
servers we use Windows NT4 server and Veritas Netbackup Datacenter 3.4.1
1 Month ago we've had a new tape drive installed. The supplier installed the
drive and I've tested it with the utility ROBTEST. It showed no errors:
mounts and unmounts worked ok.
After the drive installation I tried to activate the drive in Veritas. I
used the "Device Configuration Wizard" in "Media and Device Management".
This didn't work. I ended up with no new drive and the existing drives
showed up as standalone drives. After working through the documentation we
finaly got things working again, at least the existing drives showed up as
shared drives and backups succeeded (unfortunatly without the new drive).
But, in the "Device Monitor" we see that the 2 tapedrives have index 0 and 1
on one media server and 0 and 2 on the other media server! This doesn't look
right to me! When we try to add the new drive via the wizard "Multihosted
drive" we get an error:
"Device configuration failed on host <our hostname> with the following
error:
Drive name is already in use by another drive(34)."
Whichever we name the new drive, we alway end up with the previous error.

My questions are:
* how can we get the indexes on both drives corrected so that they
show up as index 0 and 1 ?
* Why can't we add the new drive, and what does the error mean? What
should we do to add the new drive?

Thanks in advance. It would be great if someone can help us.

Many regards,
Eric.
