Well here's the word on st.conf for my DLT7K from Veritas tech support on
Sol v2.6.

----------Original Message-------------
in /kernel/drv/st.conf

Uncomment the line tape-config-list

Uncomment the line in the second 'paragraph'-
# "QUANTUM DLT7000",      "Quantum DLT7000", "DLT7k-data"; <--note the
semicolon at end of line

Uncomment and edit the 3rd 'paragraph'
#DLT7k-data =  1,0x38,0,0x1D639,4,0x82,0x83,0x84,0x85,2;
DLT7k-data = 1,0x38,0,0x3D639,4,0x82,0x83,0x84,0x85,3;

Douglas,
assuming that you are running a current release (2.6++ of Solaris) and have
a current version of the st driver patch installed, it is correct to have
all the lines in st.conf commented out. If there is a commented-out line for
the drive type in st.conf on Solaris as you find in an st patch then that
indicates that the drive type support is compiled into the driver and no
modification to st.conf is required.

As for implications for backups if you now go and uncomment the drive
types, I have no idea. I don't think it would be a problem but I don't
have any data on it.
