Subject: [Veritas-bu] Cannot connect to client (58)

I'm baffled. I've got one Windows 2000 server (well, client) that I need to
back up, but Netbackup is failing to do any communications. I've got
several dozen other servers that are nearly identical to this server, they
all work. The Master server and this client are on the same subnet. They
can ping and name resolve eachother just fine. But when I try to perform a
backup from either the client or the server, it fails. In client-initiated
backups, the master recieves the request, and a status 58 (Can't connect to
client) ends up in the activity log. Every time any operation is attempted,
I get the following lines in the client's bpcd log:

10:48:34.375 [7568.7512] <2> bpcd main: offset to GMT 21600
10:48:34.390 [7568.7512] <2> bpcd main: Got socket for input 680
10:48:34.406 [7568.7512] <2> logconnections: getsockname(680) failed: 10038
10:48:34.406 [7568.7512] <16> bpcd setup_sockopts: setsockopt 1 failed:
h_errno 10038
10:48:34.406 [7568.7512] <2> bpcd main: setup_sockopts complete
10:48:34.406 [7568.7512] <16> bpcd main: authentication failed: 17

I'm at a loss. This server isn't behind a firewall, it should be quite
normal. It's W2K SP3, running SQLServer 2000 and an application called Risk
Pro. Both client and server have Netbackup 4.5 with the 2nd maint. patch.
I've tried regressing the client to 3.4, that didn't work. Reboots don't
change it.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Jesse Gardner
