I don't believe NBU is smart enough to realize that the image you just
expired was the last image on the tape and that hence the tape's expiration
date might get shortened. On top of that I am also pretty sure it is not
smart enough to realize that it could set the end of tape back by one
image's worth. A few simple tests should be able to bear this out:
    backup image 1
backup image 2 to the same tape
    expire image 2
backup image 3 to the same tape
generate content listing of tape: bpimmedia -l -mediaid <nnnnn>

Hi All,

If I manually expire an image, and the image is located on the
"end-of-the-tape", when I start a new backup, will the new fragments be
appended to the original end-of-tape of the newly created end-of-tape?

This is really hard to write but the core question is whether manually
expiring images will create new usable empty tape space (other than the
expiring the whole tape).
