Sylvester,

I do know there have been quite a number of Sun patches to the tape driver
on the Solaris 8 OS and I suspect there have been quite a few changes or
updates to the tar utility (between the OS version and the Netbackup
version) as well as the scsi tape driver that they all go thru between
Solaris 2.6 and Solaris 8. I would check the Sun patch site and your Solaris
8 system to see whether you have all the st related patches. This might help
some. I believe there is also a patch at the Veritas Netbackup patch tech
support web site called 1.09.NBU_232072 which supposedly is a fix for their
GNU tar that they use in Netbackup to read and write the tapes. I think the
Netbackup Patch 3 has some tape fixes too. Perhaps this might help.

Import and Re store

Has anyone had trouble running an import/restore on a Netbackup (3.4)
master/media server running over Solaris 8? We originally created the
backup on a Netbackup (3.4) master/media server running over Solaris 2.6.
The failure occurs during the restore with an error 5, read failure. The
same tapes were used to restore through another Netbackup master server
using Solaris 2.6 and the restore was successful. Veritas was contacted,
they did not feel that Solaris versions would have anything to do with the
problem. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks!
