Isn't that kind of like asking why the Pope is Catholic? :-D

All kidding aside...have you ever used the Java GUI in the 3.x environments?

Slow is relative, if you haven't used the GUI in 3.x then you haven't
experienced slow performance before :-)

I remember when it first came out (NBU JAVA interface) while at a client
site I logged a call with Veritas asking for ways to speed up the Java
interface. Really my question was EXACTLY what you just posed, why is it so
slow? The answer, no kidding, I got was that's just they way it works, java
just takes a ton resources. So the client didn't use the Java.

Fast forward to NBU v 4.5, I think more memory would likely help your
situation, they have done some wonderful work with this interface
implementation, but it does need memory. In a lab where there were only
128MB machines, I had the unfortunate task of installing 4.5 and using the
Java...that's was nearly death...we did some swapping of memory around and
beefed up the server (where we were running the interface from) and found it
to improve exponentially, again its all relative.

All and all, really, this Java interface is a vast improvement over the
previous.

If you aren't necessarily married to the JAVA, you may want to consider the
Windows Administrative Client. This is a much faster interface as it
basically installs all of the binaries on your Windows machine. I rather
prefer that interface, since the death of motif.

  Hi!

What makes the JAVA gui in netbackup 4.5 so slow? (besides java...)
  The server is a K460 with hpux 11.00, 2 cpu (180Mhz), 512 MB memory, 1 GB
swap.

I have patched the server with all recommened patches.

To the client where i run X, the is 100 FD connection.
The client is a P4, 1,7Ghz with 256 MB memory.

  Regards Hampus Lind
