There is a section (Chapter 5) of the troubleshooting guide, title, =
"Disaster Recovery" that should be helpful to you. Also, I still =
think that changing the master hostname is 'unsupported' and requires =
you to pay Veritas consulting time. I would use the same hostname to =
be safe.

Thanks,

Suzanne, if you have the catalog, you can use bprecover to recover it. =
Build you machine, install Netbackup, patch it to the same level you =
were at before the accident, then you bprecover to get the catalog. =
This should contain all the information that is on you DLT tapes, =
provided they haven't expired.=20

You can use bpimport to import all of your DLT tapes, although this is a =
slow process.=20

Howdy all! I have a bit of a situation and was hoping for some expert
advice.

Somebody* accidently fried the root partition of my netbackup server,
so now it won't boot. For various reasons I won't get into, the
problem will not be resolved any time soon.

I was already in the process of building a new netbackup server, with
the intention of transitioning my backups off the old server (because
I was feeling paranoid that somebody* was gonna break it one of these
days. Which they did, but I wish I'd had a week or two of warning
first...), so I have that available. Both run (or ran) Datacenter 3.4
on sparc Solaris (old: 2.6, new: 8)

So... I have the catalog from the old server backed up onto DLT tapes,
and I have all my backups. Is there a way I can import the catalog
info from the old dead server onto my new, nobody-but-me-has-root
server? Can I import my existing volumes (and their data) intact?

Alternately, is there a utility I can use to manually wade through the
DLTs themselves for whatever I might need?

Thanks!

-Suzanne

*same somebodies.
