[Veritas-bu] multiple media servers for the first time...

Mark,
bpmedialist, issued on the master, if not directed to a specific host, will
query all media servers, until it finds the tape (or runs out of media
servers).
example :
$ bpmedialist -ev N00100
requested media id was not found in NB media database and/or MM volume

bpmedialist issued on a media server will ONLY query that media server.
vmoprcmd will only show outstanding requests for the media server it is
issued to. Same for responding to requests, and up/downing drives. Use the
-h parameter.
SSO :
vmdareq - check this if you bounce NBU services on a media server - we have
problems occasionally when the wrong media server ends up as the scan host.
Set MH_SCAN_ABILITY = 9 in the vm.conf of the media server you want to be
the scan host.
We had an issue sometimes when media servers backed themselves up, it could
send the data over the LAN to another media server. Had to setup individual
storage units for each media server, and direct it's local backups to that
storage unit (rather than ANY_AVAILABLE). Actually we don't use
ANY_AVAILABLE at all. All backups are directed to a specific storage unit.
If you're sharing drives via fibre, try to stop monitoring software (Compaq
Insight Manager, HP EMS...) from scanning tape drives. Has caused lots of
media errors for us.
Good luck!
Cheers,
Dean Allen
