Thanks for the suggestions ...
... what I forgot to mention in the first note is that I can (
in the absence of the NetBackup processes) use "tar" to read/write every
one of the drives so there is definitely a "good path" between the media
server machine and the drives in the library.
It seems there is some "blockage" in N/B that makes it not
finish the "initialisation" of the drives.
