Hmm...I have been having a problem with the tapes not being recognized.
When the tape is reinserted, it does not assign the barcode label name, it
assigns it a stand alone random ID (like A00001). Is this the same thing
you are seeing? If so this might actually be a bug.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] unruly tape
I have a tape I don't know what I did to it but I can't get it back into
circulation. When I do vmquery -m it says:
"Could not query by media ID 000138: volume does not exist in database
(35)". This dlt tape was once frozen and when I try to unfreeze it I get
"requested media id was not found in NB media database and/or MM volume
database". This tape doesn't have any good images on it. I took a new
tape and put the old bar code on so this tape is brand new.
I am running Solaris Netbackup 3.2 with this system running as all Netback
servers. Any ideas how I can try to bring this tape back into the fold?
Thank You
David
