Others have pointed out the need to choose a platform you're familiar with,
and this is Good Advice, almost to the point of being the overriding
concern. We're a Tru64 Unix & Windows shop, and Tru64 was a no-brainer for
us.

We back up a mix of Tru64 and Windows systems, some via SSO and some via
network, and from my experience, Tru64 deals with a fiber channel
environment considerably better, and our AlphaServer DS10 master server
doesn't strain at all, even with multiple network clients feeding over
aggregated network links.

It's also a lot easier to write scripts on Unix (which I do a lot of).
Management over modems and cell phones is also a lot less painful with a
Unix server.
