There is a fix for this. I was getting errors on the catalog backup both
in Vault jobs and the regular ones. The vault problem was fixed by
applying the following patches:
NB_45_1_248881.solaris.tar
NB_CLT_45_1_248885.tar
NB_VLT_45_1_248923.solaris.tar. 
The fix for the regular catalog backups was a separate patch that I got
from support that replaced bpjobd and bpduplicate. If you call support,
you probably can get them.

After upgrading to 4.5 on the server, all seemed well.  Now I am
getting a error
when I do a catalog backup:  (50) Client Process Aborted.  I have tried
a new tape
for the catalog backup, thinking perhaps it was a bad tape.  Any ideas?
 I am at a
loss.
