When the drive goes down is there a tape still in it but ejected? This is
caused by the original slot being occupied and the robotics not having anywhere
to store the tape.
Otherwise it is likely to be a timing issue. From the admin client go to Start,
Configure Netbackup. Right click on the server and choose properties
read/write. There are two values to play with, and you have to tweak them both
until things improve. Click the media tab and increase the Media unmount delay
- try doubling. Go to the General Server tab and increase BPTM query timeout -
again try doubling.
It's not a good idea to leave these values set too high, so once you find
drives aren't downing, then lower the values gradually to find the best setting.

I keep getting drive down problems. I have a script in place to detect a down
drive and move it to up state again, but there must be a problem if they keep
going down.
Problem is it doesn't always seem to be the same drive. Sometimes drive 1 will
go down, sometimes drive 3 will go down.
Is there any way or advice on finding out what is actually wrong?
Im using Netbackup 3.2GA on Solaris 8 with an L1000 tape storage unit with 4
DLT drives inside.
Thanks
