We're having this issue right now. Recently, all the media servers data
buffers were increased from 131072 to 262144. Now the tapes receive the
following errors and are then frozen.
01:41:20 [7286] <16> io_read_media_header: block read is not recognizable -
length is 131072 bytes, media id 501560,
drive index 6
01:41:21 [7286] <16> write_backup: non NetBackup media found in drive index
6, FREEZING 501560
01:41:21 [7286] <2> io_close: closing
/usr/openv/netbackup/db/media/tpreq/501560, from bptm.c.11247
01:41:21 [7286] <2> tpunmount: tpunmount'ing
/usr/openv/netbackup/db/media/tpreq/501560
01:41:23 [7286] <2> select_media: added 123 media id's to list that matched
robot number/type and media type
01:41:23 [7286] <2> select_media: skipping media id 401759, it is not the
correct retention_level
01:41:23 [7286] <2> select_media: skipping media id 400393, either FULL or
FROZE or SUSPENDED or IMPORTED
What we have to do is write new labels to the tapes as they become expired.
A pain in the butt. Although, we get better thruput on the 9840-FC drives.
Anyone else have a better fix?
Terry

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a software vs hardware
issue. The problem I inherited was mammoth-2 tapes being controlled by hp-ux
10.20 using veritas 3.4 - this configuration wasn't compatible.
So I would make sure everything is compatible, I would check firmware
versions, I would also check patch levels.

Tried the st.conf entry you suggested, still getting the error. This is
happening when I approach the end of the tapes (AIT2 50G native/130G
compressed, around 90-100G of data per tape when the error crops up).
Maybe there is a problem with Veritas sensing where the tapes end?
This never happened when we were using 36G native/72G compressed tapes.
Thanks for all your help,
