Hi,
you can use:

echo s i | tldtest -p X -b X -t X -l X

where p is port, b is bus, t is target and l is lun (scsi address)

What I do is plug

AUTO_UPDATE_ROBOT

into my vm.conf file.  Whenever I plug a tape into the mailslot, the slot
gets emptied and NetBackup catalogs the media if it hasn't been before.
Then your media will show up in the library reports.

If you're really motivated, you could use robtest to view the status
of the mailslot.
