Why not set up one as a master server, the other as a media server in the
standard configuration, then when disaster strikes send one catalog tape and
the NT server's backup tapes to one location and the other catalog and HP
server's backup tapes to the other location (you do have alternating catalog
tapes, don't you?) and restore the catalogs to two DR master servers for
recovery?

>From personal experience, I would highly reccomend not doing this kind of
setup. I had to manage one of these monstrosities for a short time. It can
be done by configuring each master as a regular media server controlling a
number of drives and splitting the tape count into pools that are unused by
the oposite server (and there are other ways of configuring it also). But I
can't stress enough that this is a nightmare and it is an unsupported
configuration!

I have an existing Win2k master media server that is connected to a STK L700
via a SAN. I also have a HPUX 11 client that we want to make a second
master media server. Can this second master share the same L700? The
reason we want to make it a media server is it has too much data now to
backup over the network. The reason we want to make it a master is for
disaster recovery. The two masters would be recovered in different
locations in the event of a disaster. A second library was our first
choice, but we don't have money for it this year.

Thanks,

Brad Hillebrand
