Is it possible to turn a slave server into a master server? Here's what
we have: a master server on the east coast and a slave server on the
west coast. Both are Unix servers. The tape libraries attached to the
master and the slave are NOT the same type of devices. We back up the
NetBackup databases on the master everyday and send the tapes offsite.
So, if we had a disaster involving the master, could we turn the slave
into the master by doing the following:

1. Changing the host name on the slave to be that of the deceased
master.
2. Either, change the i.p. of the slave to be that of the dead
master, or change the i.p. address of the master in DNS and in the
client's host files (if it's in there) to match that of the slave server
we're turning into a master.
3. Restore the NetBackup databases. Specifically, the
/usr/openv/netbackup/db directory, and the /usr/openv/volmgr/database
directory, with the exception of ltidevs and robotic_def under the
/usr/openv/volmgr/database directory. These store information on drives
and robots, respectively, which are unique between the slave and the
master.
4. Install client software on the new master. Or would this not be
necessary since the slave server received client software from the
master when it was created.

Would this work? Am I leaving out steps, or including unnecessary
steps? Is there a more simple way of doing this?

Thank you for your help.

Darryl
