Chris,

Actually, the NBU install will create a '/usr/openv' symlink if you
install the app in any place other then '/usr'. This means if you want to
put all of NetBackup on a separate slice (mounted on, say,
'/applications/NBU'), you can install a symlink to that new location (e.g.
'/usr/openv -> /applications/NBU/openv).   I'm doing this now.  At some
sites, we've HA'd the master server using VCS (Veritas Cluster Server)
using EMC Symmetrix disk accessed via a Brocade switch (which is also used
to access the fiber-ready STK 9840 tape drives in the library the master
server[s] control). Since we have other apps that need to fail over along
with NBU, to simplify things we have all the supporting apps and NBU on
the shared "disk" and have configured VCS to fail over that one "disk". As
such, we can't mount that "disk" directly on '/usr/openv'; we then mount
this "disk" on another mount point and use symlinks to link each app's
base directory ('e.g. '/usr/openv' for NBU) to the appropriate directory
on the shared disk. This arrangement functions just fine.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Unix: /usr/openv symlinks

Backup gurus:

I don't particularly like the way NBU keeps its logs and image files under
/usr. Is there any reason I shouldn't take certain directories
(especially /usr/openv/netbackup/db/images) and symbolically link them to
somewhere else? That would sure relieve me of headaches having to
constantly watch /usr, which hovers around 95% full all the time. I'd
rather use symlinks than keep extending the /usr filesystem.

Has anybody had problems with symlinks at and/or under /usr/openv ?

Thanks for your advice!
