You can check how much was used - take a loot at the "available_media"
script that's in the goodies directory.

How much is left could only be an estimate because you don't know what
compression factor you're going to get.  It varies widely depending on the
type of data...you could probably compute an average for your site (or for a
certain class of backups) and use that as a guesstimate for how much space
is left.
