Hi everybody!
Since we're close to the point where we want to go into production with our
NetBackup-System I'm currently doing final disaster recovery tests.
Now I tried to setup W2k server on an Compaq DL360 with 2 18GB discs in a raid
1 array=>1 logical disc with 18GB.
I setup the machine and installed Office 2k to blow up the registry a bit.
Then I installed Veritas Client 3.4.2, configured the server to do TrueImage
with move detection and IDR Backup. Next I made a Full-Backup and prepared the
IDR-Disks with the IDR preparation Wizard.
So what I have is: a full backup, 4 W2k setup floppy, 1 IDR floppy and a W2k
setup CD.
Then I inserted to new 18 GB discs, setup the raid array like before and
started the IDR.
1.2.3.4..setup floppys...W2k CD....system is rebooting and running.
IDR DOS-Screen appears..inserted the IDR floppy....files are copied
correctly...IDR Wizard starts up and asks for the floppy with the ".dr"-File. I
inserted it, selected the corresponding file and pressed next.
And now comes the point where I'm at a dead end.
The screen which imforms me that IDR Wizard is going to resize partitions
appears (where you can start device manager, too). I can start device manager,
I've a greyed out back button, a next button and a cancel button.
Pressing the next-button does _nothing_. The harddisc LED is flashing shortly
but nothing else happens. I can press the next button endless with no effect.
No error. No Dialog. Nothing. The cancel-button reboots the machine ending up
with a fresh IDR Wizard.
Meanwhile I've tried to:
*) remove the Compaq Utility partition so C: is first partition on first disc
*) format the W2k parition with FAT32 since there is a note in the docu that
IDR Wizard cannot resize NTFS.
*) use the original 3.4 IDR Wizard
*) use the original 18GB discs
...and all with the same effect.
Next I tried to setup networking and Veritas-Client manually and make a
True-Image restore.
This worked so far. Only the Compaq-Services for the SMART-Array won't work
after recovery.
Don't know why.
If needed I can provide the logs from sysinternals Filemon which shows the
access to Drive C: after pressing the "next"-button.
Somebody out here who knows a solution, or is willing to help me getting around
this?
Regards,
Wolfgang Breyha
