I've had an outage and haven't been able to reply to this, but I think this
is exactly what I'm looking for. I don't use Ctl-M. Unfortunately Netbackup
doesn't lend itself very well to anyone other than admins for tracking,.
monitoring, or operations tasks it seems. So, I've developed a pretty good
home-grown monitor. I've got the beginnings of reporting (nbar seems to be
only for admins mostly) and can easily design whatever I want there. But
I've seriously lacked operations tasks due to not being able to re-run a job
without re-running a whole LOT of data. I had not yet come acrost the
ability supply a list of files. I found it in the manual after seeing your
message though. I could do as someone suggested and just extend the window
and hope it goes well. But that doesn't really give me the ability to get a
procedure or operation going. For instance, I can't put in a ticket/page/or
anything on a job that truely fails more than once, etc.

Maybe eventually I can convince the org here to let me release the code for
this. Its goals are to kind of mainframe-ize backup operations, which is not
necessarily a good thing int he open systems world. Assuming there is an
interest in productionalized reporting/monitoring/and operations for all of
this stuff I may look into it. ;)

Thanks for the help,
Kevin

NetBackup can't auto-retry these jobs from an outside scheduler, as they're
either manuals or user-directed, neither of which is retried. What you
could do is take the file list from any and all failed jobs/streams, echo
them out to another file, and then have Control-M check to see if this file
is there before exiting cleanly. If it is, you can have your Control-M
script kick off another backup and use the error file as the file list to be
backed up (which would therefore override what was listed in the class).

Thanks,
Gregg Yurchak

Control-M will not be able to restart one stream, it would have to run the
whole job stream. This is one potential reason to allow NetBackup to retry
the job since it will be able to only run the failed stream.

Control M question for NetBackup,
If you have a class that setup using multi-streaming and all_local_drives
defined in files list, how does control M know which failed backup to kick
off
asusuming C:\ & D:\ finished and E:\ failed.
Thanks
