Assuming that you've really gotten the st.conf entries right and they're
taking effect, there apparently were some serious problems with early SDLT
firmware and NetBackup.  I know there's some info in the Knowledge Base at
Veritas about this.  You probably should read the technote on this and make
sure you're running a supported firmware version on the drive.  I think
there were also some workarounds for this in the technote, but it's been a
while since I read it.


Anyway - timeouts were the issue, as I remember.
