Cases in point

System Log
The device, \Device\Tape1, has a bad block. Error 7

Application Log
TLD(0) could not move barcoded tape DGCLN from drive 4 to outport
TLD(0) Move_medium error: CHECK CONDITION
TLD(0) drive 4 (device 3) is being DOWNED, status: Robotic dismount failure

We are running NBU 3.4.1 on W2K sp2 with an L700 robot and four STK9840
drives.
A detected bad block on a tape will usually cause a downed drive as will a
cleaning tape that does not dismount fast enough (if you are using robotic
controlled tape cleaning). There is not much you can do about bad blocks but
you could try scheduling manual tape drive cleans during off peak hours to
alleviate the problem. I am in the process of giving this method a try. Once
per week a manual clean using WINAT and the tpclean command. Then let the
robot do a clean if it becomes necessary. We'll see.

What does your event log say about the down'd drive?

As others have already commented, it could be the cleaning threshold, bad
media, etc. Sometimes the event log isn't as verbose as I would like, but
I'd check there anyway and then I'd check the NBU error logs for the time
that this drive was down'd

Hello all,
We are running NB DataCenter 3.4 on Win2K. We have a STK L180 robot
with 2 DLT8000 and 2 SDLT drive. Occasionaly some of the drives go down and
I manualyy have to bring them up. What causes a drive to go down on it's
own? What should I be looking for?
TIA
Gus Diaz
