Hello!

No there is not any other network activity during night since we have a
dedicated backup network. And I have scheduled this backup when no other
backup is running to eliminate problems...

That's why I am troubled of the successful operation during the day.

Is there any difference between running a scheduled backup and a manual
backup, regarding the timeout values.

I am going to test the CLIENT_READ_TIMEOUT the next night. This night I
will test the ndd settings mentioned by Tim McMurphy.

/jonas

Hi Jonas,

I assume that your backups are a bit slower throighout the night because
other
processing/network activity is going on.

Most likely you need to increase CLIENT_READ_TIMEOUT.

What you will probably see is that the backup aborts after the current
setting
of the CLIENT_READ_TIMEOUT has elapsed. When NetBackup is processing it
resets the timer every time a file has been processed or when a
tapechange has
occured (maybe others as well, but these are the ones that I've seen)

You cab change this value in the bp.conf or using the gui, it's under
the
Universal settings tab.

My rule of thumb is make this value (in seconds) slightly larger than
the
smallest of the following 2 values:
- The maximum time that it takes to backup a single file
- The time that it takes to write a full tape

Hope this helps,

Ysbrand
