The bpimport command is what you probably want. It goes through the data on
a tape and reads the backups/files/images and update the NetBackup database
so the images on the tape can be used again. You are right, of course, that
you can't have overwritten the tape.

Forgive me if this is an old subject, but I'm pretty new to Veritas and am
under the gun...
 
is there a way to identify and recover data that is past its retention
period?  
 
We're running Netbackup 3.4 on HP/UX.
 
I've worked with other products where this was pretty easy so long as the
tape wasn't overwritten.
