Thanks Travis,

I was afraid that was going to be the answer ... but I guess the answer is
always no unless you ask. I'll have to break the news to them and run like hell
in order not to get hit with flying objects. I've been to the Veritas Oracle
training and I know it works, but it sure is expensive isn't it?

Regards,
Dennis

Dennis,

We are Running RMAN for hot backups of Oracle... We also ran into the same
problem with the DB package... Come to Find out You must have a license for
each DB you plan to do this with. RMAN Will not work other wise...

I verified this with Veritas, Oracle and the Local VAR we bought this
from.... Although my manager tried to make us get it to work.

So in short: You must have the licenses to do it on the clients you want
done... Or else have it dumped to a flat file and NB will back it up. We
could not do the Flat file route due to the size of the DB... But good luck
with you effort...

Is anybody out there using NetBackup to do hot backups of Oracle databases
without using the Veritas DB Extension product?

I have licenses for (8) DB Extensions and I'm using (5) of them. The other
(3) are earmarked for another project. I have folks in several other
business units that want me to perform hot backups of their Oracle databases
but when I told them the cost of the DB Extension, it almost killed them.
They are currently using the RMAN utilities via scripting to perform the
backups but the manual tape management is getting them down. They want
something a little more automated that's not going to break the bank. If
anybody out there is doing this successfully, I'd sure like to here from
you.

Regards,
Dennis
