[Veritas-bu] write errors on DLT2 tapes

I'm getting write media errors quite often, even on new DLT2 tapes.
The drive is Sun StorEdge L9 which actually is Quantum DLT8000.
The tapes are Fuji.

Is there any way I can check the tape cartridge, I mean write something to the
full tape length and then read and compare?
