You may also want to check if you are using ksh as default.  I have seen
problems in the past with parameters not being passed so RMAN would not
work.  If you like, send me the scripts you are using if you are still
having problems.

I did backup a 3.2 client with Oracle 8.0.5/RMAN using NetBackup 3.4
server. Was it working before you upgraded the NetBackup Master? Did you
upgrade the NetBackup Oracle Extension (libobk.so), but not the client?
I recall the documentation stating the 3.4 libobk.so worked with the 3.4
client or greater. Also, some Oracle 8.x backups get picky about which
interface it uses, which can be fixed using the REQUIRED_INTERFACE =
<interface name> in bp.conf. However, this problem didn't yield me a
status 0 as you indicate you're getting,  but its something to
eliminate.
