Although I backup files from servers all across our WAN (don't have the
luxury of a dedicated backup LAN), networks are not the problem. I can't
even restore files from the master to itself.

How many networks are we talking about? Do you have a primary LAN and a
backup LAN?

I've seen this before and solved it, I'm just trying to figure out if it's
the same issue?

Send me your bp.conf from the master and the client your restoring from
and to please.

Bob

Nothing in the bpcd log ... the relevant entries for the time period in
the bprd log are in a previous message if you want to look at them.

I don't think it's a security thing, I tried a restore from the master to
the master and it hangs as well.

check the bpcd log on the client and the media server and the master

also check the bprd log on the master.

I'm thinking it is a security thing.

if you are restoring hostA, using MasterA and Media ServerA. Are you
restoring it to HostB or HostA, also where are you executing the restore,
MasterA Media ServerA or HostA or HostB?

Thanks,

Bob

Backups work fine though. Just in case, however, I ran robtest and all my
drives show OK. Thanx anyway.

When this happened to me, it was because there was something wrong with my
SCSI bus. My tape library's robotic controller couldn't detect half of
the
slots in the library. NetBackup, however, didn't know there was a
problem,
and so it would wait forever, "waiting for media... to be mounted."

I discovered what was wrong by using "robtest" to scan slots.

Hope that helps
