It was removed from the GUI in 3.4, but in 3.2 there was a value on the master
(if memory serves, it was one of the Global NetBackup Attributes) that sets
the number of total drives in the NetBackup cluster (master + all medias).
You might want to check to see if this was changed.

The purpose of this value was to tell NetBackup how many total physical drives
existed. In an SSO environment, where a drive is being used by more than one
STU, NetBackup can't just add up all the drive totals of all the STUs and
assume that many physical drives existed. I think NetBackup was using this
value to help throttle the number of jobs active vs. queued. Without this,
NetBackup would think that many more physical drives existed than actually
existed and would try to run more jobs than could be handled (causing a lot of
pending requests w/ no drives to handle them).

Since this value is gone from the GUI in 3.4, I am assuming that NetBackup is
now smart enough to look down into SSO and determine the number of physical
drives actually being used. ??? If this value still exists, but was just
removed from the GUI, please let me know... I would be curious where this
needs to be changed when more drives are added to the environment.

Hello all:

Running into something I have never seen before. We have an L700
(20 DLT 7000 drives)/HPUX 11.00 Master/HPUX 11.00 Media Server;
this has been up and running for the past several months but all
of a sudden, only one drive can be used at a time during backups;
20 jobs get kicked off and they complete one at a time but use
multiple drives (one job finishes on one drive, then the next job
kicks off on another drive, so on and so on). Plenty of scratch
tapes, STU set to 20 drives, bounced media server, recycled all
daemons, recent firmware on robot, tpconfig looks good. Not sure
where else to look.

Anybody?

(NBU 3.2)

Thanks.
