I'm having a few problems with Media ID's.

We've got the following setup:

2x L280 SUN TSD Stackers,
1x Ultra 5 Media Server.
3.4 Netbackup Datacenter running on Solaris 2.6

There is no barcode reader on the L280, so all tapes are labelled and loaded
manually. The tapes are on a six weekly rotation, and have been in rotation
since the beginning of the year (rvsn media id's all written to tapes
already).

There are two pools in use, a scratch pool and the netbackup pool. On expiry
of a tape from the database, it is moved into the scratch pool ready for
reuse.

The server only backups up SUN clients.

A tape was recalled from offsite storage but on use it was discovered that
the Media ID was not the same as the physical tape label. The physical EVSN
label read UL0041, but the RSVN header on the tape read UL0043. I recalled
the tape labelled UL0043 and sure enough its RSVN read UL0041. The tape
headers had been swapped over.

Looking at the time assigned for the media, both UL0041 and UL0043 were
assigned at exactly the same time (5/26/2001 12:42:33). Why does this
happen? (I don't think it should be possible)

Veritas support say that NB would not overwrite a tape header if it already
has one.

I've had other cases where two tapes seem to be mysteriously swapped over,
has anyone else had problems like this?
