Hello,

I have an issue with NetBackup and the MS-SQL extension - it's a little
odd and I need some perspective.

Master server is NBU 3.4 DC on Solaris 2.7 master.
one interface is "fred" (this is the configured master server name)
another interface is "ethel.backup-net".

dvd.backup-net is the WinNT/SQL7 client I'm trying to back up. Both
"fred" and "ethel.backup-net" appear in the client's bp.conf file.

And this backup almost always works...
========================================
client initiated file level backups- success
server initiated file level backups- success
client initiated MSSQL database backup - success
server initiated MSSQL database backup- failure with error code 2

Looking at the logs, I see that dvd.backup-net is trying to talk back to
fred's IP. (but it can't get there from here, it's only network path to
the master is ethel.backup-net)

dbclient log entry:

But it works if...
==================
I add a spoofing entry to the NT box's hosts file: (imagine that the
fred IP number is 123.123.123.123...)

123.123.123.123  fred ethel.backup-net \
ethel.backup-net.real.name.witheld.com

So why does this server-initiated SQL backup *insist* on talking back to
the wrong interface of the master server? (but the client-initiated
version of this works fine...)

It looks kind of like the server is sending that name.

Any help/insight would be greatly appreciated,

Jim Bougor
