My recommendation would be to start with one, then add them only as required.
The fewer pools you can use the easier it is to manage. You really don't have
to do anything special to track the media if you use one pool for multiple
types of backups, since the software is doing this for you.
If you are doing duplications, you would want to use a separate pool for this
because of the way NetBackup selects the tapes to use for duplications.
Also, anytime I have more than the default pool, I like to add a scratch pool
that can "feed" any of the multiple pools if they run out of volumes.

Hello NBU Guru's,
Here is a simple(silly) question. For a given single
environment what is the number of volume pools required which should be able
handle Incremental,Weekly fulls,Monthly fulls,Yearly fulls and also for
duplication, it should meet all the requirements without complicating things
for media management ?
For simplicity if I choose a single pool for Incremental,Weekly fulls,Monthly
fulls,Yearly fulls, how do I track the media ?
TIA
Dayal
