Yes, that's exactly how NetBackup works.
I guess I don't understand why you would want to
overwrite the backup from the night before? My thought
is, what's the purpose of backup? If only to protect
you for a few hours, why not use tar or NT Backup?
If you want to do this, you can (in NBU 3.4) change the
retention level to 1 Day, which will expire the image
after one 24 hour period. But you still may run into
the same problem, because it is 24 hours from the time
the image finished writing to the tape.
In any case, that's another option...or simply
bpexpdate as Jason indicated.
