[Veritas-bu] LTO drives

Tim,

  We are using SCSI attached IBM LTO drives in a Scalar 1000. They seem to
be doing fairly well so far. The actual drive failure rate seems to be lower
than DLT8000's, which pleasantly surprised me. 

  The throughput seems to be more client limited than anything else. When we
can keep the drive full, it will run anywhere from 15 to 34 MB/s. They
average about 18MB/s when you keep them full. Nice! So far, the max capacity
I have seen is 181 GB (tape drive compression) on a single tape.

  Just make sure everything you are using is supported. The HW platform, the
OS, the version of Veritas, the library, the LTO driver, etc. If you are
trying to do this over FibreChannel, check and double-check the support
matrices! Solaris seems to be fairly well supported on paper, but with
anything else be very careful.

  We are using Fuji tapes, which, we were told by our vendor, were OEM'd to
IBM!
