At my previous job we had a bunch of Mac data that caused us problems.

When we backed up Macintosh files from the Netware server we had a
problem with the stupid users who ended their files with a dot (ie.
filename. ). You could see it from the Win9x/NT computers but couldn't open
it. Worse was that when you went to restore the file it failed. After
talking with tech support it was isolated down to a problem with Netware's
namespace. There was no fix from Novell for a year after we reported the
problem (fixed in service pack 8a) but the Veritas engineers figured out a
workaround. Instead of storing the Long namespace info as the default for
the Netware target in the database use the Macintosh namespace as the
default. Netbackup keeps all the different namespace info but one has to be
a default. Once we did that we could restore and not only could we get the
files back but Netbackup would put the proper filenames in their respective
spaces! Macintoshes would see "filename.", Win9x/NT would see "filename" and
actually be able to open it.

That was under 3.2

Does NetBackup support Mac data backups? I have a Novell client
(really? who'd of thought..) that has macintosh data stored on it and
accessed by mac clients. We have restored data when using BackupExec
but are having no luck with NetBackup.

Anyone still have mac data that they are backing up with NetBackup? And
can you restore it?

As I understand it the problem is the resource fork. The data fork
seems to still be intact but the resource is either not backed up at all
or is not being restored properly. I have tried an entire directory
restore as well as a single file restore. There is other data mixed in
with this and it restored fine in both cases.

Thanks.
