Subject: Media server outside the Firewall (Document link: Gary Sperano)
We tried connecting a new media server that is outisde the firewall to our
master server but
something is not working correctly. I am going to explain the steps that I
took and tell
me if I have left anything out.
1) Connected tape drives to helen vi SCSI cables
2) configured new media server to recognize the tape drives
ioscan -funC tape
Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
============================================================
tape 5 8/0.3.0 stape CLAIMED DEVICE QUANTUM DLT7000
/dev/rmt/5m /dev/rmt/5mn /dev/rmt/c0t3d0BEST
/dev/rmt/c0t3d0BESTn
/dev/rmt/5mb /dev/rmt/5mnb /dev/rmt/c0t3d0BESTb
/dev/rmt/c0t3d0BESTnb
tape 1 8/8.2.0 stape CLAIMED DEVICE QUANTUM DLT7000
/dev/rmt/1m /dev/rmt/1mn /dev/rmt/c1t2d0BEST
/dev/rmt/c1t2d0BESTn
/dev/rmt/1mb /dev/rmt/1mnb /dev/rmt/c1t2d0BESTb
/dev/rmt/c1t2d0BESTnb
3) executed tpconfig ** (tpconfig.log)
Index DriveName DrivePath Type Multihost
Status
***** ********* ********** **** *********
******
0 Drive0 /dev/rmt/c0t3d0BESTnb dlt No
UP TLD(0) Definition DRIVE=14
1 Drive1 /dev/rmt/c1t2d0BESTnb dlt No
UP TLD(0) Definition DRIVE=13
Currently defined robotics are: TLD(0) robot host = bscs2, volume
database host = bscs2
4) added new media server as a storage unit
5) verified the netbackup services were running *see attached (bpps-a.log)
NB Processes------------
MM Processes------------
root 2722 1 0 10:46:23 ? 0:28 /usr/openv/volmgr/bin/vmd
root 4956 4941 0 12:43:20 ? 0:09 avrd
root 4941 1 0 12:43:16 ? 0:01 /usr/openv/volmgr/bin/ltid
root 4955 4941 0 12:43:18 ? 0:01 tldd
5) try to monitor the new storage device in device manager ** (error)
- "Could Not start oprd on host Helen: Cannot connect to VMD"
Just as a reminder, new media server is outside the firewall.
All the ports that are written in /etc/services for NETBACKUP SERVICES &
MEDIA MANAGER SERVICES have been opened in the firewall. Also, NAT'ing
has also been turned off on the firewall. Are there any setting that must be
added to
the bp.conf file and the vm.conf file?
