I LOVE our ADIC Scalar 1000.
1000 does mean 1000 tapes, but it will hold more than that.
your first purchase will hold something like 8 DLT drives
and 225 tapes ( I am sure my numbers are wrong ) but I can
grow it to 24 drives and 950 or so tapes, without buying
another Robot. just empty cabinets with slots (and drives if I want)
Check out ADIC, their service has been superior, their product was
much cheaper, long term and short term, growth is very affordable,
and it's drive independent.
We went with AIT, which DOUBLED our possible drive capacity
and increased our tape count by 1/3 or so.
It's well worth looking to.
Enjoy

Subject: [Veritas-bu] new generation of drives
We are at a stage where our STK9710 (574 slots, 5 DLT7000 drives) is not
enough.
We need to add another library, and although the LTO drives seem like a
good direction forward, having 2 types of media is not as convenient.
Does anyone out there have the same kind of dilemma? Any advice or
suggestions?
I would also be happy to hear opinions about other brands of libraries
on this scale.
Miriam
