In the beginning I also had problems setting up my Novell 4.11 servers as 
clients under NetBackup. It was especially painful since I know absolutely 
nothing about Novell NetWare. What I did find out was this:

Since Novell NetWare DOES NOT use DNS, it will not be of much help to you in 
resolving your server names in either direction. I had to put the name of each 
of my NetBackup servers in the /etc/hosts file on every Novell server. I also 
had to insure that I was using the true server name in the NBU class vice any 
alias name that may be in place. Otherwise, I would have to place all the 
Novell server alias names in the /etc/hosts file of the NetBackup servers. Once 
I figured all that out (it took a week or so) I've had no problems backing up 
any of my NetWare servers. I hope this information is helpful to you.

I've been evaluating NetBackup DC for about 2 months now and I
ran into this when I intially was trying to test our NetWare servers
(both 4.11 and 5.0).  Even with the DNS settings corectly configured
I still got the error 59.  After adding an entry for the master
server into the SYS:\ETC\HOSTS file on the Netware servers it worked
fine.
