Jim:
Not to my knowledge. The tape header on a NetBackup
tape maintains a "tar-compatible" header, but still has
all of the Media Header info and Backup header info
specific to NetBackup.
Page 617 of the NBAG-Media Format and page 599-Reading
Backup Images with tar, I think may indirectly answer
your question.
