Hi Matt,
Yes, you're forced to use nsrsnap_vss_save, even for filesystem backups of the
nodes. You should use NMM 2.4.
So, in essence, you should have 5 clients configured(for a 2-node DAG):
1. The DAG node. This should be configured as a networker client, but scheduled
backups should be disabled.
2. The physical nodes, with nsrsnap_vss_save as save command and saveset:
APPLICATIONS:\Microsoft Exchange 2010
3. The physical nodes, with nsrsnap_vss_save as save command and saveset: C:\
D:\ etc.
There are some other settings, look them up in the NMM 2.4 installation,
administration and application guides.
You should also make sure you run the NMM config checker on your exchange
servers and correct anything it says is wrong.
Exchange 2010 backups can be a real pain, but if you get the setup right, it
generally works fine.
So, I recommend you read through the documentation. I do NW support at work and
ALL of our customers have had challenges getting this to work.

Subject: [Networker] Exchange 2010 with NMM
I have just installed two new Legato Networker version 8.0 servers and I added
6 of the new NMM licenses for exchange 2010 backups. I have followed the
application manual for setting up the clients on my end but I am getting some
very strange errors.
In our old exchange2007 environment we just had the 1 virtual name for the two
servers with one being active and the other passive so we only backed up active
server. I used the command nsrexchsv command with the -c and client name and -a
for alias.
In the new environment for 2010 the manual tells me to use the
nsrsnap_save_vss.exe command and I added that and then added the save set of
this:
APPLICATIONS:\Microsoft Exchange 2010
Do we have to use the nsrsnap method to backup exchange 2010? Any help would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks and have a great day.
