Hi Frank,

I think it's the same on Solaris, that's where I first saw it.

That doesn't seem right.

When "All" is used for the saveset list, the NetWorker client is supposed
to back up filesystems that are "local" and "real". It should be
filtering out (not backing up) any filesystems that don't meet both
criteria.

This is why NetWorker will mistakenly back up a new pseudo filesystem type
(like it did for the /sys pseudo-fs on Linux when it was introducted, and
like it has for other new fstypes that aren't on its filter list)
until there's a client update that adds the knowledge to skip that type
of filesystem.

It's been many years since we've had Tru64 here (our original NetWorker
server was OSF/1, as were several of our clients), but the behavior Frank
is describing really sounds like a bug to me.

Perhaps try an older client? Something in the 7.5.3 series?

Also, if EMC claims support for Tru64 in the 7.6.x series, you shouldn't
be hesitant to call them on it. As a data-protection company, they should
understand that data on legacy systems is no less valuable than data
elsewhere.

Tim

Tony,

Thank you for your input. Easier than directives (I think) will be to explicitly list
the file systems I want backed up. However, this "it is listed in fstab, I must
back it up" behavior is not the way NetWorker works on any other flavor of unix, so
I was not expecting it here.

AFAIK the client backs up everything listed in the fstab file (or whatever it's

So if your NFS mounts are in there, they are backed up. You should probably use
local directives to avoid that behavior.

Folks,

Over the holiday we got our first Tru64 clients, two of them. We had the system
administrator install NetWorker 7.6.4.3.Build.1070 and used the saveset name
"ALL" (the server is running on Linux RHEL6 64-bit and NW 7.6.4.1.Build.1049).

The problem we are seeing is that "All" is backing up NFS mounts on the Tru64
clients. I see that there is no longer a Tru64 client in NW8, so I'm hesitant to open an
issue with EMC about this. Has anyone seen this with Tru64 clients. I was not expecting
it to back up NFS mounts (since it doesn't do that on any other OS I back up).

Thanks,
-- Frank
