We are using VADP and it works fine in vSphere 4.1 environment. I would
recommend to you to generate the procedure from Procedure Generator and take
care about the requirements in order to obtain also a good performance.

I'm at 7.6.2, but vSphere 4.1 (hopefully v5 later in the year), and currently I
am doing "traditional" backups (i.e., treating each VM as a separate NW client,
exactly as I do the physical clients). So I would be interested in this topic,
as well.
