Thanks for digging into the issue 
which is the "Default user group"?

NW creates the 2 User Groups Administrators & Users by default.

BTW - Be careful that you do not overrule the privileges for the Users group 
with privileges for the Administrators group. 
For instance, readonly@* with only the Monitoring privilege in the Uses group 
will be granted a NW admin when you add the entry *@* in the Administrators 
group.
